Messier Object 8 (M8), also known as the Lagoon Nebulae, lies at the heart of this image. This large object can be seen with a modest pair of binoculars in the summer months in the mid-latitudes. Just above the lagoon is another famous Messier Object, M20, also known as the Trifid nebulae. While the actually distance to this object is not known, we surmises these two objects lie (relatively) close to each other in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy.
